Kids Explain Data

Kids Explain Data was a brand awareness campaign built around a simple but charming premise: ask kids to explain data concepts in their own words, and let their honest, unfiltered answers do the storytelling.

“Using a “kids say the darndest things" approach, Tableau was able to deliver its key brand messages and slogans in a way that felt genuine and authentic. The campaign leaned into the idea that data doesn't have to be intimidating — if a child can grasp and articulate it, anyone can.” - The Drum (more below..)

The campaign also had a strong community and social component, encouraging people to share their own creations using the #KidsExplainData hashtag on Twitter.

Beyond the initial campaign, it grew into something larger — a full Data Kids initiative with resources to help parents and educators introduce data concepts to young learners, including activity guides, Tableau Public demos, and kid-friendly visualizations. An Educator Kit was developed specifically for kids ages 5–13, covering everything from icebreaker activities to data collection and visualization exercises.

It was a campaign that worked on multiple levels — driving brand awareness, reinforcing Tableau's mission of helping people see and understand data, and building genuine goodwill with a broad audience.
